Needless to say, the process involves certain costs and requires a comprehensive set of documents to ensure a smooth application.
Before we delve deeper, it is important to note that the passport application fees in India can vary based on several factors, including the applicant's age, the type of passport (normal or tatkal), and the number of pages in the passport.
For those applying for a fresh passport, if the applicant is under the age of 18, it will cost INR 1000 for a 36-page passport. Additional INR 2000 will be charged in case of Tatkal service (expedited process). For applicants above the age of 18, a fresh passport or re-issue will cost INR 1,500 and INR 2000 for a 36-page and 60-page passport respectively. The additional INR 2000 will be charged in case of Tatkal service.
The replacement of a passport in case of lost, damaged or stolen passport will cost INR 3000 and 3500 for a 36-page and 60-page passport respectively. Additional INR 2000 to be charged in case of Tatkal service.
Another important and unavoidable cost is the Police Clearance Certificate. This certificate will cost you INR 500. There is no Tatkal service available for this step of passport processing.
When we speak of passports, it is also important to know about ECR and ECNR. ECR stands for Emigration Check Required and ECNR stands for Emigration Check Not Required. If you are planning to work abroad, your passport will need ECR. In case of replacement of passport for deletion of ECR / Change in personal particulars, it will cost you INR 1,500 and 2,000 for a 36-page and 60-page passport respectively. For minors, the cost is INR 1000.
