In 2021-2022, by working with its partners, Canada responded to many extraordinary and ongoing global challenges, including pandemic recovery, food and energy insecurity, climate crisis and threats to international peace and security, while advancing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The results Canada has achieved are reflected in the Report to Parliament on the Government of Canada’s international assistance 2021-2022. Among the highlights are:
Canada’s humanitarian assistance contributed to addressing the needs of over 326 million people in need in 63 countries. This funding supported the work of trusted partners who provided life-saving assistance such as food, clean water and sanitation, and health care.
Canadian-funded programs reached more than 42 million people through projects aimed at ending sexual and gender-based violence, including harmful practices such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation/cutting.
Canada’s funding to the Peace and Stabilization Operations Program played a crucial role in conflict prevention, demining efforts, and direct assistance to people affected by conflicts worldwide, including Ukraine, Cameroon, Colombia, Burkina Faso, Haiti, Iraq, Mali, Myanmar, and South Sudan.
Guided by Canada's Feminist International Assistance Policy, we helped improve the lives of millions of people. We addressed global inequities through international assistance programming.
